My Journal
As a result of the analysis of the latest CMC tools and general online pedagogy that the second module on the course provided, I reckon I now have a pretty good grasp of the advantages and disadvantages of online language learning as it is today, so a good platform from which to build on. After weighing up its pros and cons, I still see WBLL emerging with an armful of awards. There is one for 'Most Vibrant Field in Second Language Learning and Teaching', 'Most Improved', and another one for 'Most Exciting Potential'. The field, of course, gets 'The Encouragement award' too to console it until the new generation of SCMAC tools arrive. [See my Review of the Research for a description of the deficiencies which are stifling its full potential these days. Interestingly, I posed the same question in the discussion forum only six weeks ago from a viewpoint of complete ignorance. I have now answered my own question; certain proof of my professional growth over the duration of the course].
The future of WBLL? More research is sorely needed; bring on Web 3.0, and the advanced CMC tools that appear to be lying just over the horizon. The Web is a godsend to the second language teacher. It is the future of our profession.
A final note as this is my final journal entry; ever, I just wish to reflect on the value of doing a Master of TESOL at all. Every serious teacher needs to attain one. Because, it is a sheer wealth of knowledge ... Fantastic, I feel well-prepared for this career. Despite the hard slog, I am really glad I did it.
I wish to thank all the staff at USQ for their assistance throughout.
Cheers,
Scott
